Group medical for basic coverage comes in two basic forms. One is a minimum essential coverage (MEC) plan that provides preventative care and a limited number of visits to doctors, specialists and urgent care facilities. Often these plans do not offer hospitalization benefit or offer a limited benefit. Generally, these are the lowest cost plans available though the common practice of the providers is to add other features such as discount pharmacy or phone access to a medical professional. The other basic medical is a fully insured plan with high deductibles and restricted networks. These plans will include hospitalization.
